In 2013, I did my first ever teacher training at Yoga Vida in NYC. God, it was amazing. I’d just resigned my post alongside my CTK Co-Founders at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and decided that thirty days of non-stop Yoga was exactly what I needed. I wanted to clear my head and to figure out my next move plus, who needs a paycheck anyway, amiright?
Just to be clear: I do. I need a paycheck.
Anyway, it was a wonderful, grueling, growth-filled month. I made new friends, I learned about all things Yogi and I toned up my guns. I spent those warm, June evenings preparing for my final by teaching BShan and Unleished on my deck in Brooklyn, usually after they’d been drinking.
Those evenings generally ended like this…
Ever since then, I’ve been trying to get an at-home practice going. All of my teachers agreed that that is the only way to make Yoga a part of your daily life. So if I want a serious, life-long practice, if I want to be the old lady with flowing grey hair doing Yoga on a beach someplace in full cashmere at 75, I had better find a way to get my buns on a mat almost every, single day.
But I mean, really, it just feels good to do Yoga all the time too.
Getting to a class is not always going to happen for me and on top of that, working on a specific pose that I’m focused on might not be possible in the average, weekly, flow class.
The solution: Yoga Studio, the handheld Yoga class that allows you to get your flow on any time, anywhere. I am really digging it.
The app is super clean and minimal. The teacher’s voice is clear and concise and they have three levels available; beginner, intermediate and advanced. Each level consists of classes ranging anywhere from 4 to 60 minutes in length. They even have a section that breaks down specific poses. You can also choose from classes geared toward specific goals like relaxation, flexibility, balance or strength. It’s superb.
Here’s a peek:
I honestly couldn’t love this app more. It will set you back $3.99 at the app store but, I definitely think that’s worth it to have a Yoga Studio in your pocket any time you feel like getting down, dog (sorry, couldn’t help myself).
